Personally I feel that music is highly underappreciated in games, and this would just be a fun way of writing about some of the best music gaming has given us over the decades. A similar idea I had was “The Importance of Music in Gaming; and why you should appreciate it” or something along those lines.
8. The Souls Series & Bloodborne

If there’s one thing FromSoftware does right, it’s their soundtracks. They are timeless. From the gory beasts you must slay to the brief moments of leisure the game gives you, the music piece retains a sense of elegance and beauty on all accounts. Give these harmonies a listen:

7. The last of us

The last of us was a masterpiece beyond comprehension and this game shook the world. It’s in depth narrative and portrayal of human life is beyond anything played before and in many cases it is responsible for proving videogames can be indeed an art form. All of this woven together with the rhythm of its soundtracks:
6. Metal gear solid

Konami made no compromises with the MGS series and they definitely didn’t with the soundtracks. The game has been running for a very long time and met its final edition (at least with Kojima) in 2015. Have a listen:

5. Fallout 3 – Main theme

Fallout has been established for quite some time now and in the range of games they have made Fallout 3 is probably the best one. From all of the musical pieces that Fallout has produced, the main theme of the Fallout 3 really sticks out for me.

5. Final Fantasy

There has been more Final Fantasy games then you can count with fingers and with that even more from the soundtrack aspect. There is probably over 20 or 30 hours of sountrack time so here’s a few to get you started:

4. Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s creed holds a place in everyone’s hearts. If not recently, then at one point it was there for you. Either way, the thrill of slicing up your enemies with hidden blades and having it backed up by its soundtracks is an exciting experience. And with most video game music, they are movie level standard. Check it out:

3. Super Mario

No game on this list or any other list has been this well integrated in any entertainment culture. Mario has more interactions of its soundtracks then you can count. It deserves to be on this list because of how long it has survived in the gaming industry:

2. Castlevania Symphony of the Night

It’s even in the name. In my opinion this definitely deserves to be in the top 3. The soundtrack excites your emotions left and right. Even listening to it without the game might just make it sound better:

1. The Legend of Zelda

Legend of Zelda is one the most beloved games of all time. That also means its soundtrack is too. I think we all knew this was going to be somewhere high up in the list. This main theme has found itself being recreated many times. So for nostalgia sake and modern sake here’s the original and an orchestra version:
