PUBG: Battlegrounds Is PUBG’s New Name And It’s A Bit Confusing

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has officially changed its name to PUBG: Battlegrounds in a confusing moniker rebrand.

The battle royale often feels like it falls to the wayside as Apex Legends, Warzone and Fortnite continue to thrive. I mean, Fortnite just got Ariana Grande!

However, it turns out all Battlegrounds needed was a slick new name. But the results are… odd to say the least. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will now be known as PUBG: Battlegrounds. That’s right. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds.

The new name comes in an attempt to unify the PUBG brand, as other titles such as New State will carry the PUBG tag. However, I’m not sure if it is the most thought out retitling.

The internet was quick to point out the obvious mistakes of the rename, in typical meme fashion.

One Twitter user, its_charlie20, called out their surprise that the game wasn’t simply called “PUBG”. I’m sure that is how everyone is going to continue to title the game, however. It’ll just be an interesting conversation whenever anyone asks what the PUBG moniker stands for.

Hopefully, the rebranding will lead to new content heading to the game after a sequel was reportedly canned after development issues.

To celebrate the questionable rebranding, PUBG: Battlegrounds will be available to play for free next week between August 10th and 16th.

And to coincide with its free week, an event is kicking off on August 8th as a collaboration between the game and K-Pop band Blackpink. This event will introduce new cosmetic skins, airplane tails and decals.

You can get a look at what’s to come with the Blackpink in a recent teaser PUBG: Battlegrounds released.

The Blackpink event will continue over until September 7th. Console players can experience the event from August 12th to September 15th. PUBG: Battlegrounds is available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
