It’s awards season all the way! As the Academy Award nominations were just announced yesterday, the nominations of the 17th Annual DICE Awards have been revealed today by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. The DICE Awards can very well be considered as the Oscars for the gaming industry.
Naughty Dog is making Sony and PlayStation fans proud with their magnum opus ‘The Last of US’, which has received thirteen nominations including Game of the Year, Game Direction, Game Innovation, Story and two Best Performances for Troy Baker as Joel and Ashley Johnson as Ellie. Grand Theft Auto fans shouldn’t be disappointed either as Rockstar’s lavish open world effort ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ has received seven nominations. This is followed by Bioshock Infinite with six, Tearaway and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag receiving five nominations respectively.
The DICE (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit games conference will be live-streamed online and held at 7:30pm PST on February 6, 2014 in Las Vegas. Votes for the DICE Awards is in form of a jury selected from the industry, much like the Academy Awards. The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences consists of 22,000 members and part of the jury is also formed by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). You can check out the full list of nominations here.
