Grand Theft Auto V just turned eight, and the mega-hit from Rockstar Games still continues to sell all these years later.
Almost every gamer has some sort of GTA V story. After all, the game has sold over 150 million copies to date. Yet it’s understandable, as Rockstar created one of the best social online experiences video games have to offer. Exploring the vast city of of Los Santos with friends is just as fun now as it was all those years ago.
Even as Grand Theft Auto V turns eight, there is still plenty to come from this open world crime simulator.

Grand Theft Auto V was scheduled to release on next-gen consoles later this year. However, the game was recently delayed into 2022. Regardless, this will mark the game’s third console generation, and who knows it will last from there.
After splitting both Grand Theft Auto Online and the base game show that Rockstar have no intent to slow things down. This will fly in the face of those eager to see the franchise progress into a sixth installment. However, an earnings call earlier this year, indicated that GTA V sold an insane 5 million copies just between May and August.
It wouldn’t make financial success to pull sales away from GTA V with a sequel, when its still selling this well. Rockstar has consistently provided free updates to the game for years, fueling the game’s continued success. And with the next-gen upgrade on the horizon, that will only continue.
However, disregarding money and potential sequels, Grand Theft Auto V turning eight is cause for celebration. Most of us have had great times within the game. Maybe you’ve tried out its wacky races. Or maybe its the heists, where coordination is key. Either way, it is undeniable that GTA V has become a staple in gaming culture.
