The Witcher 4 Is Entering Pre-Production At CD Projekt Red

The Witcher 4 has officially entered pre-production, according to a new update from CD Projekt Red.

The company is moving on to pre-production after concluding its research phase. This is still an early step in development, but it shows good progress after the initial announcement.

CD Projekt Red announced there would be another game in the Witcher franchise earlier this year. Although there was no official title given to it, it’s the fourth game so far (if you don’t count Gwent). Therefore, fans have taken to calling it The Witcher 4 for now.

The progress to pre-production was confirmed in a blog post by CD Projekt Red. We also got a video from the company’s CFO Piotr Nielubowicz, who re-iterated that the game is in the pre-production phase.

CD Projekt Red President Adam Kiciński said “We are very eager to revisit the universe which has shaped our history to such an extent. We have recently concluded the research phase for the first game in the new Witcher saga, which means that from now on further development expenditures will be capitalized on our balance sheet.”

Witcher 4 Speculation

As for what the next game could be better, it’s anyone’s guess. However, fans have been speculating that the game could focus on Ciri.

Ciri was a major character in The Witcher 3, and you could play as her at certain points in the game. If the next game is going to focus on a new character as the main protagonist, Ciri is a sensible option. But all we have to go off so far is a single teaser image depicting a medallion.

The developers confirmed that the medallion is supposed to be a lynx. This could suggest that the new game will focus on a new school, the School of the Lynx. It’s possible that Ciri might found this new school in the game.
