Stream Snipers Are Getting Banned In FFXIV Following Asmongold Stream

Square Enix is taking strict action against stream snipers in FFXIV, banning those who violate the game’s user agreement.

Final Fantasy XIV has seen a stark increase in popularity over the last few days. With top streamers like Asmongold and CohhCarnage picking it up, the amount of players on Steam surged. It’s since broken its personal record and reached a peak of almost 50,000. Not bad for an 11 year old MMO that many deemed a failure!

While Asmongold and other streamers appear to be having a whale of a time getting stuck into a new MMO, the experience hasn’t been wholly positive. Some stream snipers have taken it upon themselves to target big streamers.

Throughout Asmongold’s stream, several were seen standing in Asmongold’s way so that he couldn’t click on NPC’s. The players followed Asmongold around for a long while, constantly preventing him from turning in quests or entering dialogue.

Bring on the ban hammer

One of the player’s stream sniping Asmongold was riding a whale mount (don’t worry – as someone who doesn’t play FFXIV, this confuses me greatly too). They later appeared on the imageboard 4chan complaining that their account had been suspended by Square Enix.

The email reads: “The world of FINAL FANTASY XIV is much like the real world, in that it is populated by users of all ages hailing from a variety of regions and social backgrounds. The FINAL FANTASY XIV User Agreement was created to ensure that all of those users could relax and enjoy themselves. We therefore ask all account holders to understand and follow the FINAL FANTASY XIV User Agreement.”

Further down the email, Square Enix claims that the user violated the user agreement under section ‘3.2 Disruption’: “You may not in any way disrupt or interfere with the Game experience of other players, including the disruption of Square Enix’s computers and servers.”

4chan is renowned for being a relatively toxic environment, but even the comments on there are slating the user for stream sniping Asmongold. One reads, “Why did you think that was a good idea”. Another says, “you deserve it”.

Square Enix taking action against stream snipers can only be a good thing for the FFXIV community. When it’s no fun for streamers to play the game, it’s no fun for us to watch.
