The Splitgate beta has been extended yet again, and it probably has something to do with an announcement the game will make at Gamescom.
Splitgate has been a true tale of success since it launched its console beta back in July. Initially soaring past 500,000 downloads, the Halo-meets-Portal shooter struggled with its continuing popularity. Servers overloaded, player caps were hit, and the queue times for matches soared.
But as the team at 1047 Games spent more time stabilizing the servers, aided by a $10 million cash injection, things finally began to level out. As players began to look forward to the full release, they were let down when the beta was extended. And it seems as though they’ll have even longer to wait now.
Splitgate Eyes Up Gamescom
Via the Splitgate Twitter account, the devs announced that the game had surpassed 10 million downloads. And it seems players keeping interest in the shooter has afforded 1047 Games some extra breathing room.
On their Twitter, the studio announced:
“We’ve come so far since starting the Open Beta in July, but there’s more work to be done before we’re ready to release… We might be extending the Beta, but be on the lookout during @gamescom on Aug 25th for more exciting news!“
While this may have been a disappointing blow for some, fingers crossed that whatever announcement Splitgate has in store will be worth it. Splitgate continued to tease the eventual announcement, with a quoted tweet of Geoff Keighley’s advertisement for the event.
It seems as though some form of partnership to boost funding is likely in store for the game. This would result in the continued ironing and smoothing of gameplay, as well as the potential addition of maps, weapons, skins and modes. It could also be the game’s expansion on to other platforms, after the studio announced it would like to launch on Switch and Mobile.
