Giancarlo Esposito Proves He’s Perfectly Cast In Far Cry 6

We were all incredibly excited to see Giancarlo Esposito fill the villainous role in Far Cry 6. It turns out, the actor was just as thrilled to land the job, bringing his own props and notes to his first meeting with Ubisoft [via GamingBible].

Esposito is known for his villainous roles as Gus in Breaking Bad and as Moff Gideon in the Mandalorian series. In a recent interview, the narrative director of Far Cry 6, Navid Khavari, discussed what it was like to work with the legendary actor.

Apparently, the role of President Antón Castillo was always written with Esposito in mind. “You have actors’ voices in your head, people that start to come through into the character, and Giancarlo was right there,” Khavari says.

Once Esposito was officially cast in the role, he met with the rest of the Far Cry narrative team to discuss his character. It’s fair to say that the actor had a lot of input in how he ended up portraying Castillo.

“He was really ready to embrace being a part of the Far Cry legacy”

Khavari says that Esposito showed up to the meeting with a bunch of notes already made on the script, as well as props. He reportedly arrived with a ball for the hand grenade given to his son in the reveal trailer. In addition, he brought a cigar just to cement himself in the role of the fascist President.

That initial meeting with Esposito was a lengthy one – over four hours in total. While like, it ultimately shaped the character that we see in the final game. “We had a really great time,” Khavari says. “And it was the start of this really beautiful collaboration that translated right to performance capture… he was really ready to embrace being part of the Far Cry legacy.”

We recently got our first look at Far Cry 6’s gameplay in a lengthy trailer. Our first impressions are that it’s going to be ruthless, relentless, and ridiculous. Navid Khavari also recently discussed how the narrative of Far Cry 6 will deal with political themes. Far Cry 6 is due to release on 7th October.
