XDefiant Shows Off New Maps Ahead Of Closed Tests

Ubisoft has uploaded a short preview for a map in its upcoming Tom Clancy’s XDefiant shooter coming later this year.

XDefiant was unveiled just this month, but already Ubisoft is gearing up for its first closed test. Testing will launch for PC players in the US and Canada on August 5th. Ubisoft have announced that more tests will come. Posting on their YouTube channel, Ubisoft unveiled two of the maps heading to the test: Emporium and Air and Space.

The free-to-play shooter will take on the form of games like Overwatch or Rainbow Six Siege. Characters will have specific traits to deliver a constantly evolving and dynamic arena shooter. The big selling point of this game, however, is that each of its factions and maps will be based within other Tom Clancy titles such as Ghost Recon Breakpoint and The Division.

Division fans may perk up on their seat a little when they get a look at Emporium. With snow-specced city streets and an abandoned Christmas decorated shopping centre, it’s clear that Emporium takes inspiration from the Black Friday pandemic of The Division.

Something that is immediately noticeable is the verticality of its maps. With skywalks, climbable surfaces and two floors of its shopping centre, players will need to keep their heads on a swivel to survive this map.

The second map is Air and Space. Players will be fighting through a Space Museum. With lunar rovers, and space shuttles to explore, Air and Space is clearly the more visually appealing of the two. However, it doesn’t seem quite as diverse as Emporium, with a ton of conveniently placed boxes for cover.

You can register interest in the XDefiant closed tests now, to be in for the chance of an closed test invite. However, these test may not be representative of the final product as XDefiant was announced to be in “early development”.

XDefiant is a free-to-play shooter that is expected to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia and even Luna in either 2022 or 2023.
