When Will Apex Legends’ Next-Gen Update Arrive?

With the power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S pushing some games to the limit, fans are wondering when Apex Legends’ next-gen update will be available for console players.

We’ve known a next-gen update is on the way for a while now. But word on when that update will be arriving in the popular battle royale has been vague. However, a recent AMA on the game’s Reddit page gave those dying for news on Apex Legends next-gen, a glimmer of hope.

When Is Apex Legends Next-Gen Update Coming?

News on the update arrived back during the launch of Season 7 Ascension. And while next-gen consoles have boosted Apex Legends up to 1440p and reduced loading times, a true next-gen experience has yet to arrive.

During Respawn’s Season 10 AMA, the developer reaffirmed that a true next-gen update was in the works for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Director of Communication at Respawn Ryan Rigney didn’t specify when we would be seeing the update but stated that “it’s in the works and we’re excited about it too”.

Why You Should Be Excited

A next-gen update is something many players get excited about and for good reason. In the coming months, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima will entice new audiences in with their PlayStation 5 updates. But while these are welcome additions to games like that, an Apex Legends next-gen update would radically improve the battle royale experience.

With a potential of increased resolution and up to 120FPS, you’ll be at a marked advantage when it comes to getting the drop on enemy squads. Sadly only certain televisions or monitors come with HDMI 2.1 support which provides 120FPS. And they are usually quite pricey.

However, for those with access to compatible monitors or televisions, the gap between console and PC players will narrow. Games like Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War support 4K and up to 120FPS, and immediately feel much nicer to play.

As popular Warzone streamers flock over to Respawn’s battle royale amid cheating issues, an Apex Legends next-gen update would further fuel its fight for the most popular BR.

Originally, next-gen improvements were scheduled for this year. But as we approach the final months of 2021, it’s easy to imagine the update arriving sometime in 2022.
