The Rings Of Power Teaser Trailer Was Made Using Practical Effects

It turns out that yesterday’s teaser video for Amazon’s ‘The Rings of Power’ Lord of the Rings TV show was made using practical effects.

Lord of the Rings fans went wild yesterday as Amazon released its first teaser trailer for the upcoming TV show. With the title of the show previously unknown, we now know the title to be ‘The Rings of Power’, hinting at what the show will be about. While we follow the One Ring in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies, we don’t see much of the other rings of power. It seems that the Amazon TV show will explore more of this part of Tolkien’s world.

The teaser trailer doesn’t show any of the filmed footage for The Rings of Power. Instead, it shows a stylistic title reveal as a molten metal is moulded into the shape of words. It’s very reminiscent of the opening scene in Fellowship of the Ring when the rings are forged.

One Ring To Rule Them All

You might have expected this teaser video to be created using digital effects, but that’s not the case. A video has surfaced online that shows how the teaser trailer was made using practical effects. Metal was actually melted down and poured into a mould while a camera zooms over the top. Water is then poured over the top to create that awesome mist effect as the metal cools and settles.

It’s incredible to see practical effects used in this way and certainly bodes well for the quality of the final product. The Rings of Power has been shooting in New Zealand for the past several months. The show is currently set to release on September 2nd 2022 on Amazon Prime Video. Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Trystan Gravelle and Benjamin Walker are all listed as main cast members.
