The Halo Infinite Battle Pass Is Seriously Fantastic

343 Industries has gone deep on Halo Infinite and why its battle pass doesn’t have an expire date.

Last night (July 28th), 343 Industries gave us our first deep dive into the Halo Infinite multiplayer. The livestream showcased the game running on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. We also got a slew of developer commentary, giving us an insight into how Halo Infinite is shaping up.

I’ve been crying my heart out after not getting an invite to the weekend’s beta. And this stream proved how fun the gameplay looks which makes it all the harder. But one thing that stood out to me was the real focus the company had on its new battle pass system.

The new battle pass system was unveiled last month, but the Technical Preview gave us a deeper look at what’s to come. Unlike battle passes in games like Apex Legends and Warzone, Infinite’s will never expire. This means that players can work their way through the battle pass at their own pace, without ever losing out on limited time skins.

A GAME WITHOUT COMMITMENT ISSUES

Members of the team addressed that players expanding game libraries were at the root of the change.

“Players are going from Sea of Thieves, or they are jumping over to Age of Empires, and then they are coming into Halo as well. And we want to make sure that when you sit down, you don’t have to sit down to absorb an entire battle pass to say ‘what are my rewards?'”

This new approach to the battle pass feels far more relaxed. I feel like this will allow more casual players to reap the rewards without the massive time commitment. Even players that don’t pick up the battle pass will have access to tiers of free content.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer is shaping up to be one of the best shooters this year. Developers at several points referred to the release as “several” months away, hopefully indicating that the release is on track for its rumoured November launch. Players who were invited to the Technical Preview will be able to play multiplayer modes over this weekend, as well as work through a 20 tier season 0 battle pass.
