Red Dead Online Players Call For A Microtransaction Boycott

Red Dead Online has faced a lot of controversy since it launched last month. From its skewed economy that meant players were sinking hours into the game just to buy a tin of baked beans, to the usual issues with online gameplay, such as lag, griefers and server issues.

It seems the controversy isn’t yet over though, as fans are crying out for others to boycott the game’s microtransactions as a means of showing Rockstar that we all hate paying to play.

Over on the r/reddeadredemption subreddit, a user by the name of JackalMain posted saying: “Micahtransactions are here. And they are garbage as usual. People, do NOT buy these. Show Rockstar and Take Two that this isn’t what we want.”

At the time of writing, the post has nearly hit 50k of upvotes, showing Red Dead Online fans are pretty serious about the idea.

Microtransactions were recently added into the game, with some temporary savings available for players looking to invest. The game will usually charge $9.99 for 25 gold bars, but you can currently pick them up for $4.99. You can, however, only get the deal once per account.

Pretty clever, Rockstar…

Picking up the 350 gold bar bundle right now will set you back $100. Something which fans definitely aren’t happy about.

Here’s the full list of current US and UK prices:

  • One-time offer – 25 gold bars for $4.99/£4.49
  • 25 gold bars for $9.99/£8.99
  • 55 gold bars $19.99/£18.49
  • 150 gold bars for $49.99/£44.99
  • 245 gold bars for $74.99/£69.99
  • 350 gold bars for $99.99/£89.99

People are naturally upset at the costs, but will Rockstar listen?

Will you be paying for gold bars in RDO?
