Everyone is excited about the next generation of consoles and this excitement has been heightened as the chatter in the industry about the next generation has been picking up a lot recently. Could we be seeing the next generation of consoles soon?

According to Marc-André Jutras who previously worked at Activision and Ubisoft had this to say about the question on many players minds when it comes to the next generation of consoles:

The PlayStation I think will do it. I know, was it the Xbox 360 where they had a backward compatibility list with the original Xbox? They had to approve the game title by title? I think that was weird, and I hope it won’t be like that. I prefer to have an emulator that will run all the games a console has, maybe with small bugs and glitches, instead of saying I have 50 games in my library and I can only play four of them because the others aren’t approved yet.

This is by no means a confirmation of backwards compatibility is coming to the next generation of consoles but after someone of Jutras standing says he believes it will be a probability I am inclined to trust him.

It would make a lot of sense for Sony to allow backwards compatibility as they have an incredible array of exclusives for the PS4 which people would still want to play after the PS5 came out. Xbox One has huge amount of backwards compatibility and I can definitely see them keeping that same for the next iteration of the Xbox.

The only thing we can do is sit and wait to see what they have to say nearer the release date. The expected release date is 2020 for both of the next iterations of consoles, now that it is finally 2019 I can say that that is only one year away. We may be getting news about next gen consoles very soon so keep your eyes peeled!

PS. Happy New Year!
