Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Release Date, Platforms, Info, And More

It’s another year, and you know what that means – Activision is releasing a new Call of Duty game and it comes in the form of Modern Warfare 2. Here’s what we know about Modern Warfare 2 so far, including the release date, platforms, info, and more.

Call of Duty has been an annual franchise for the publisher ever since 2003 and the publisher is showing no signs of slowing down. Sledgehammer Games released Call of Duty: Vanguard in 2021 to a mixed reception. While the game was received well critically, its sales figures haven’t reflected that. A lukewarm Warzone integration hasn’t helped matters, either.

With that in mind, it’s vital that this year’s Call of Duty knocks it out of the park. So, what exactly do we know so far about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 so far?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Release Date

After an entertaining reveal trailer involving some artistic looking shipping containers, Activision has revealed that Modern Warfare 2 will release on October 28th. This is about in line with when Call of Duty titles usually release. Last year, Vanguard dropped on November 5th.

Activision has given us a brief glimpse at some single player campaign gameplay. Set on an oil rig, it looks especially nostalgic of the original Modern Warfare 2 game while improving on the excellent gameplay from Modern Warfare 2019. watch the gameplay trailer for yourself below!

All that we know so far is that it will be a sequel to the fan favourite Modern Warfare game released in 2019. That title rebooted the iconic series with plenty of characters returning to the scene. The official artwork shows that Captain Price is set to return once again alongside Gaz. Ghost is also featured on the cover art, which is fantastic news for long-time fans.

MW2 – What consoles will it release on?

As for which consoles Call of Duty 2022 will release on, it’s set to release across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles are still fairly difficult to come by thanks to the shortage of superconductors and the global pandemic. The stock issues are expected to last well into 2024.

For that reason, it’s unlikely that Activision will want to make Call of Duty 2022 the first new-gen only Call of Duty. Especially given that Call of Duty games now operate on a live service, cross platform model, it’s imperative that as many people as possible are able to access this game..

MW2 – What do we know so far?

Just like Modern Warfare did in 2019, it sounds like Modern Warfare 2 is set to be another huge step forward for the series. However, all we’ve heard so far are leaks and rumours – take all of the following with a pinch of salt.

Classic maps remastered from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 are expected to make an appearance. Some of those are rumoured to appear in a brand new Warzone map which will replace Vanguard’s rendition of Caldera. Some rumours also suggest that the new Call of Duty will include a more tactical game mode that’s inspired by Rainbow Six Siege.
