It sounds like the highly (highly-highly) anticipated sequel to Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us might be coming sooner than expected, at least according to one industry insider [via Express].
In since-deleted tweets, former IGN employee Alanah Pearce apparently confirmed the game is set to release sometime this year. This is the internet though, and even if you delete your tweets, someone has them somewhere.
She reportedly said: “If you can’t find anything official [about the 2019 release date] then it’s just my brain firmly remembering something and assuming it was public.”
Alanah Pearce has supposedly been told Part II release date is in 2019. https://t.co/UvRl3ZQuwa

She also apparently claimed she’d heard the news from multiple sources.

Before we get too deep into this, it’s pretty important to note a few things…
Firstly, we’re on the cusp of the next-gen consoles hitting the shelves, with rumours suggesting the upcoming PlayStation 5 is set for a 2020 release.
You have to wonder whether or not Sony would choose to release what’s sure to be one of its biggest games of all time just a few months before the new console.
It’s also worth remembering that Sony won’t be appearing at E3 this year – at least not with its usual presentation and game announcements. Again, you really have to think about whether or not 2019 really will be the year of TLOU Part 2, considering Sony is skipping the biggest gaming event of the year.
We do know that the game is pretty close to completion (if not already finished up). Naughty Dog animator on the project recently shared the following tweet, suggesting yes, this game really is going to be something special.
Sorry for the vague-post but as an old person that’s been doing this for a while now I’m kinda hard to impress, but today @gameplayAnim made something I’ve been wanting to see in games for years and it looks better than I ever imagined. pic.twitter.com/Kfgb46XEma

I guess it’s all just speculation for now, but hey, never stop dreaming right?
