It’s Been 5 Years Since This Hilariously Bad Trailer For The Mummy

It’s been five years since what might be my favourite Hollywood blunder ever – the time that Paramount published this hilariously bad trailer for The Mummy.

The Mummy was touted to be a tentpole movie for Paramount. Tom Cruise had a huge vision that he was going to create something akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starting with The Mummy, he was supposed to go on to direct several new monster movies that would all tie into each other. With stars such as Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, Javier Bardem and Sofia Boutella in the cast, it looked set to be promising.

Alas, the Dark Universe wasn’t meant to be. The Mummy released in 2017 to a mediocre critical reception. It currently sits at a 16% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes with fans not rating it much higher at 35%. The original tweet announcing a cinematic universe still remains visible, despite the concept being shelved for nearly five years.

This wasn’t the most embarrassing thing to have come out of The Mummy reboot movie. Shortly before the movie released, Paramount released a trailer for the upcoming film. However, someone clearly didn’t proof watch the trailer before uploading it as this version was shy of several important audio tracks. Instead, we get to hear some incredibly awkward screaming and grunting from the stars of the show. Give it a watch for yourself below.

This awful/incredible trailer is easily more entertaining than The Mummy movie ever was. At least something good came of the box office flop!
