Destiny 2’s New Cosmetic System Will Take Until 2034 To Fully Unlock

After years of waiting for an armour transmog system in Destiny 2, Bungie is finally delivering with Armour Synthesis. Arriving as part of the new Season of the Splicer, Armour Synthesis allows players to alter the appearance of their armour pieces without changing the stats.

How do you synthesise armour?

Though this is a feature that many fans have clamoured for, the way Bungie has implemented it seems more complicated than it needs to be.

To synthesis one piece of armour, you’ll need to defeat normal enemies and collect a new item, Synthstrand. Once you have 150 of these, you can use them to purchase a new type of bounty.

Completing the new bounty rewards you with another new item, Synthcord, which can subsequently be crafted into Synthweave. From there, you can use the Synthweave to turn armour items into Ornaments. Still following along?

Ornaments are consistent armour appearances, so players can choose exactly how they want their Guardian to look.

How long does all of this take?

Regardless of how long it takes to transmog one armour item, Bungie doesn’t want you to be converting any more than ten armour items per season. That cap is bumped to 20 for the inauguration season, but after that, you’ll need to wait a few months before you can transmog any more items. Be careful with choices!

With the artificial cap in place, that means that if you wanted to convert every single armour item in the game, it will take you until 2034 to do so [GameRant]. That’s assuming that Bungie doesn’t add any more armour pieces until then, which they almost certainly will.

If you don’t want to wait for the season to reset, there is an option to purchase the Synthweave necessary from the Eververse Microtransaction store. Five Synthweave will run you back 1000 Silver in-game, which is about £8.39 in cash.

Destiny 2’s Season of the Splicer is set to begin on May 11th and will run until August 24th.
