Battlefield 2042 Is In Top 10 Worst Reviewed Games On Steam

Players are so displeased with the launch of Battlefield 2042 that it is now in the top 10 worst reviewed games on Steam.

Whichever way you look at it, it’s a bad time to be a Battlefield fan. Hopes were pinned high prior to the release of Battlefield 2042 – DICE’s latest title appeared to be an ambitious step forward for the series. However, as we explained in our review, 2042 is a perfect example of when a project’s ambitions outweigh its capabilities.

It appears that players are feeling the same way with the game being inundated with negative reviews on both Steam and Metacritic. At the time of writing, Battlefield 2042 currently has the “Mostly Negative” tag next to it on Steam with over 35,000 user reviews. That ranks it as the 9th worst reviewed game of all time on Steam.

It’s a similar story on Metacritic. While the Metascore is sitting at 73, the user score is far lower. Its current rating is a 2.3 on PC with over 1,500 negative reviews. A lot of the issues that players are reporting appear to be performance based. As you can imagine, accommodating 128 players in each multiplayer match takes its toll on hardware and server performance.

DICE has implemented a new server system this time around which allows it to update Battlefield 2042 without pushing download patches. This should hopefully allow the team to make fixes to the game more seamlessly. However, Battlefield 2042 has a long way to go yet. With Halo Infinite stealth releasing last week – and knocking it out of the park – 2042 is certainly stacked against quality competition this year.
