With half the Avengers being swept up with a dustpan and brush while the rest face some pretty grim prospects in the first Avengers: Endgame trailer, things aren’t looking great for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. But are things about to get worse thanks to a villain even bigger than Josh Brolin’s Thanos?
As Joe and Anthony Russo prepare to round off Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic universe, Avengers: Engame is already set to go out with a bang. However, with reports of a “greater threat” than the Mad Titan, some clever Redditors think they’ve found out who it could be.

According to Reinheart123, Death (or more specifically Lady Death) will be a big part of the superhero sequel. For those who don’t know, Lady Death is a character pulled directly from the comics and was the on-again-off-again girlfriend of Thanos. In fact, the purple pr*ck collected the Infinity Stones to impress her.
Is it obvious to anyone else that the villian in @Marvel‘s “Avengers: End Game” has to be Lady Death?

Despite the Russos repeatedly saying Lady Death won’t appear in Avengers: Endgame, they would say that wouldn’t they? Previously, fandom guessed that Cate Blanchett’s Hela was the cinematic version of Lady Death. Although Hela apparently died at the end of Thor: Ragnarok, we never saw a body and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for bringing back forgotten villains like Red Skull.

Reinheart123 guesses that the Lady Death in Avengers: Endgame will be Hela’s mother. Remembering that Thor specifically referred to Hela as his half-sister — and knowing that the franchise says everything for a reason — it logically means her mother is out there somewhere.
The theory also neatly ties into the mysterious casting of 13 Reasons Why‘s Katherine Langford. While Langford seems too old to play Blanchett’s mother, being an ageless being like Death would be one hell of a twist.

As it stands, the threat ‘greater’ than Thanos is a mystery, with various theorists guessing it could be the Celestials or some sort of tie to Phase 4’s Eternals movie, Fantastic Four-favourite Galactus, or even a time-travelling Thanos with two Infinity Gauntlets. Either way, the Lady Death theory is a pretty solid one. It’s just a kick in the Infinity Stones that we have to wait until April to find out more.
