It looks like Scott Pilgrim is getting a brand new anime series on Netflix soon, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Scott Pilgrim, originally a graphic novel series, was adapted into live-action by Edgar Wright. Now, it’s heading back to our screens, but in the form of an anime series.
Netflix and UCP, the team behind The Umbrella Academy and Chucky, are developing the new anime adaptation.
Bryan Lee O’Malley, Scott Pilgrim’s creator, is writing and executive producing alongside BenDavid Grabinski, the showrunner behind ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ at Nickelodeon.
Another Adaptation
The graphic novels were inspired by various manga, so an anime adaptation makes more sense than some recent Netflix adaptations.
However, it remains to be seen how this will turn out. After all, the recent Cowboy Bebop live-action series didn’t quite go as Netflix planned, and it was cancelled after one season.
Hopefully, the inclusion of the original creator and a better direction will lead to another great adaptation. The band members from the 2010 movie will return for the anime, and Wright and producing partner Nira Park will be getting executive producer credits.
Six volumes of the original graphic novel series were published between 2004 and 2010, with main characters Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers. They focused on the titular character as he is challenged by his love’s seven previous relationships.
