A brand new Witcher game just got announced by CDProjekt Red

CD Projekt Red just announced Gwent: Rogue Mage, a single player deckbuilding roguelike based on the Witcher world.

The Witcher games have earned a lot of fans over the years, especially The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. But for me, the real game was Gwent, the card game within a game which honestly hooked me more than the actual game itself. So it’s pretty cool to see Gwent: Rogue Mage, a new single player roguelike based on the card game of Gwent.

The new game is releasing on PC, iOS and Android. It’s available for $9.99, or there’s a $19.99 version with additional skins, cosmetics and card packs for the multiplayer game.

Rogue Mage is being branded as an expansion for Gwent, though it will be available as a separate game for players to purchase on its own.

CD Projekt Red said “While Gwent multiplayer is a fantastic game for those who are looking for a great PvP multiplayer experience, we perfectly understand that many Witcher players loved the original mini-game of Gwent for totally different reasons. With Rogue Mage we aim to give this audience a reason to play modern-day Gwent in the format they prefer.”

Gwent single-player returns!

Rogue Mage will use characters from the single player Witcher 3 version of Gwent, while also using cards from the multiplayer Gwent. Apparently, the mechanics are a bit more “complex” but shouldn’t be as daunting as logging into the multiplayer version of Gwent initially.

Decks are based on different themes, and you can add more cards to your deck in each run as you advance. You can choose key cards to build around, and you’ll earn experience by progressing through each run.

CD Projekt Red also stated that they prioritised gameplay over story with this release. The expansion is not an addition to the Witcher lore, but it does sound pretty cool regardless.
