Tyler the Creator isn’t a big fan of NFTs, according to a hilarious rant currently spreading on social media.
The rapper sat down with Converse for the company’s 2022 All Star Series. In it, he discusses various topics, and eventually it drifts onto NFTs. However, Tyler was quick to make his opinion on the trend clear.
In the video he says “I’m not fully informed so I’m kinda speaking out of this surface-level ignorance, so excuse me when some a**hole is in the comments like ‘he doesn’t know what the f*ck he’s talking about’, but…“
“None of the examples that I’ve seen, is like beautiful art. It’s a f*cking monkey in a supreme hoodie.“
The clip quickly went viral, with plenty more people clowning on NFTs in the comments too. And it’s easy to see why, as NFTs are an extremely polarising and easy-to-make-fun-of concept.
What’s an NFT?
If you don’t know what an NFT is, it stands for ‘non-fungible tokens’. And even though I’ve had to write about NFTs more than I ever wanted to, I still don’t actually what the heck that means. All I know is that they’re generally ugly as sin, actively harm the environment thanks to the processes that verify them, and above all else – a scam.
The main draw seems to the prospect of selling them for large sums of money, but I’ve lost track of how many NFT scams have been going around. Plenty of rappers have embraced NFTs, even swapping their Twitter profile pic for a monkey image. Thankfully, Tyler sees right through it and calls it what it is.
