The first teaser trailer for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is finally here.
The trailer debuted during the Super Bowl and offers our first look at the show in motion. The trailer is brief, but it’s enough to get fans potentially excited for the new series.
The Rings of Power is Amazon’s take on the Lord of the Rings, and it premieres this September 2nd. It’s set during the Second Age, and features young versions of characters fans know and love such as Galadriel and Elrond. However, it’s also introducing new characters, and some of them are shown in the trailer.
First Trailer
The trailer begins with the lines “Haven’t you ever wondered what else is out there?”, before showing some grand shots of Middle-Earth. Lord of the Rings fans should feel right at home with those wide open landscape shots, but the rest of the trailer quickly shows things that are totally new to the series.
A young Galadriel ascends an icy cliff with nothing but a knife in hand. A new elf character seems to catch an arrow in slow motion then fire it back. We see a man surrounded by flames, a brief glimpse of a battle with orcs and even more mysterious shots.
A lot is still left to our imagination, but it seems fairly promising to me. However, the show has a very high bar to meet. Amazon has a lot to prove with The Rings of Power, and it remains to be seen whether this series has what it takes to come close to the quality of the original films or books.
