DriveClub was one of the first few games that was unveiled when the PS4 was revealed last year.
Many months have gone by and energy for the DriveClub title has went from anticipating to questioning the lack of confidence in the game.
The PS4 exclusive racing game developed by Evolution Studio, is owned by Sony. The developers creating the game are very experienced with the racing genre, and had the opportunity to gain an early access to the PS4.
DriveClub was supposed to be launched last year alongside the PS4, but the delay happened and is now set to release in 2014. It is already 2014, and fans are getting anxious about the game.
One of Sony’s head honchos who’s in charge of product development, Scott Rohde was able to provide us with the information about the DriveClub delay:
“What I will say is that it all comes back to that fundamental principle, and that’s that we want to build great games. And we really don’t want to release a game before it’s ready. And sometimes, this happens in the normal course of business, where we think we’re on track to deliver what we think is going to be a great game, and when we get closer, we realize that we’d be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready.”
Even though it is costing time and money, Sony decides that they will not be throwing out a game that doesn’t feel perfect. Rohde’s continues:
“So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we’re willing to kinda eat that [cost], and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that’s what’s going on right now with that game.”
Rohde’s was asked when the release date will be, he answers, “We’re not announcing any specifics on that yet.” Sony PR then said they would get out more details soon.
Many consumers are impatient when it comes to games, but I feel that it is better to wait for a high quality game, then to get a terrible rushed game.
