PlayStation and the PS4 has gone from strength to strength in recent times. In 2019 there were some incredible PlayStation exclusives which has lead to many more units being sold. As of December 31st 2018 91.6 million PlayStation 4’s had been sold.
Sony announced in early January that they had had a stellar 2018 and an even better Christmas period. Over the holiday season 5.6 million PlayStation 4 units were sold along with 50.7 million PS4 games. Huge achievement for Sony and shows the power of exclusive games.
Marvels Spider-Man was PlayStations fastest selling exclusive of all time which helped sell many a PS4 with it’s exclusive PlayStation console, see below:
Speaking of exclusive games, there are plenty more coming for PlayStation in 2019. Get ready for people to get right into these lot in 2019:
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake
- Ghost of Tsushima
- The Last of Us Part 2
- Death Stranding
- Days Gone
These are ones that we know about so far but there is plenty more time for Sony to announce some new exclusives coming this year.
A PlayStation game also managed to pick up the Game of the Year award, God of War fought off a lot of tough competition from top tier games.
President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment had this to say about the active users on the service:
“the montly active users of PlayStation Network continues to show strong growth, and has surpassed 90 million as of end of November 2018.”
Sony have also come out and said that they are ‘doubling down’ on single player games in the future. This doesn’t necessarily mean that these will all be exclusive single player games but I am more than happy to see single player games come back to the focus of the industry after the insane popularity of Fortnite and other battle royale games.
