The combined base of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is about 60 million units, according to EA executive.
In a recent conference, Electronic Arts mentioned about the sales of the present generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) which combines up to an estimated 60 million units. In January, EA said that the new-gen console install base was around 55 million. So, this is quite a significant rise in numbers in a couple of months time.
Blake Jorgensen, CFO of EA, said at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference that the console market is “large”.
Jorgensen referred to the numbers when he was talking about Virtual Reality (VR) games and how the publishers have to adjust and commit along with the emerging technologies.
He also mentioned that VR is not fully proven and has a minimal amount of install base. This is the reason why EA aren’t willing to spend around $50-$100 million in developing a full VR game. However EA is working on smaller “vignette” style VR titles.
