Netflix Drops Trailer for Blonde, the Marilyn Monroe Film With Ana De Armas

Netflix has released a teaser trailer for Blonde, the new “adults only” film based on Marilyn Monroe, starring Ana de Armas in the lead role.

The Blonde trailer, which was released on June 16th, shows a brief glimpse of the upcoming film. Most of it is shot in black and white, with some teasers of what to expect from the finished product. It doesn’t give much away, but it’s enough to get viewers excited for the film.

Ana de Armas looks pretty much perfect in her role as Marilyn Monroe – and if anyone can give a good performance as the iconic starlet, it’s her.

The teaser trailer opens with a shot of Monroe crying as someone is trying to do her makeup. Then we get glimpses of her life as a celebrity, performing on stage and being greeted by fans. It ends with a shot of Monroe looking at herself in the mirror, where turns from frowning to laughing at herself.

It’s all set to an ominous rendition of Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend, and most of the teaser is in black and white. It looks pretty dramatic, and will no doubt focus on the challenges throughout Monroe’s life.

What is Blonde?

The film is based on a novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde, which explores Monroe’s early life up to her rumoured late relationship with JFK. However, Oates has stated that the novel is more of a fictionalised narrative based on Marilyn Monroe’s life. It invents characters to fit the story, while others are indeed real people who were a part of Monroe’s life.

Blonde will release on September 23rd on Netflix. The film has been delayed previously, but now it seems we have a solid date to look forward to. It’s directed by Andrew Dominik, and stars Ana de Armas, Bobby Cannavale, Julianne Nicholson, Adrien Brody and Caspar Phillipson.
