Mortal Kombat X Storyline Jumps Years Into The Future

IGN recently interviewed Ed Boon, series creator of Mortal Kombat, to discuss the upcoming Mortal Kombat X video game.

Looks like the next video game installment will be based off the MK9 video game. Though it won’t be linear. Instead, the game storyline could jump years into the future or into the past.

There are periods that are directly after MK9, then there are periods that are five, ten, 15 and 20 years out. A lot of the events take place 25 years after where we see older versions of the characters, like Cassie Cage and all that. But it does jump around in time; it’s not a linear thing.

Furthermore, Mortal Kombat X would also feature new characters. Ed Boon explained that the development of MK9 was more of a fan service thus why the roster included several of the popular characters we come to know over the years.

Instead, Ed Boon is looking to expand the character roster with several new characters that we have yet to hear about.

The last game we did in 2011 was a complete fan service title, so we really felt it was time to add a lot of new characters to the mix,” he said. “So yeah, a lot of old faces won’t make the roster, but to us it was more important we did introduce new characters. We’re probably introducing more in this game than in any other MK title ever.

Regardless of the new characters, it was also revealed that after Mortal Kombat X releases, DLC packs will eventually make a release with downloadable characters.

Mortal Kombat X is set to release sometime next year in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
