Infinity Ward, the development team behind this year’s Call of Duty title, has officially revealed the name of the new game, Modern Warfare 2.
Activision has already been fairly open about what we can expect from Call of Duty in 2022. Previously, it acknowledged that Infinity Ward is working on this years title and that it would be a direct sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare. That game was a rebooted version of the classic Modern Warfare game from 2007.

Modern Warfare 2 or II?
In a very predictable move, we now know that the 2022 game will be called Modern Warfare II. Infinity Ward teased a new logo for the game on its Twitter. It incorporates the roman numeral ‘II’ into the ‘M’ and ‘W’ letters. Interestingly, the studio still uses the wording ‘Modern Warfare 2’ in the attached hashtag, bringing much relief to all the SEO writers out there. It’s still going to be confusing to differentiate between this and the 2009 game, though.
We don’t yet have any further details about Modern Warfare 2, though it seems like a reveal is imminent. However, we do know that the game will release at the tail end of this year and will bring a new version of Warzone with it. There are some rumours that this might be the first next-gen only Call of Duty title, leaving the PS4 and Xbox One firmly in the past.
