Judge Refuses Attempt To Have Amber Heard Case Dismissed

A judge refuses an attempt by Amber Heard to dismiss the defamation case presented by Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp’s legal team rested their case in the defamation trial on Tuesday after 13 days of testimony. Immediately, Heard’s own legal team presented a motion to dismiss the whole case.

Their motion was dismissed by Judge Penny Azcarate based on two of the charges. The trial will move forward as expected.

Defamation Lawsuit – Judge Refuses Amber Heard

Depp and Heard have been embroiled in legal disputes for years after their divorce in 2016. The current defamation case centers around a 2018 Washington post article Heard wrote which detailed domestic and sexual violence. However, she did not name Depp in the article.

Depp alleges that Heard’s article caused him to lose film roles and other opportunities. He is suing for $50 million, and insists that she is the abuser rather than him.

Judge Azcarate said that in terms of the case, “the weight of the evidence is up to the fact finders”. She stated that she is taking the third charge, based on a re-tweet of the Washington Post article, under advisement. It is unclear when the judge will rule on the defamation claim regarding Heard’s tweet.
