In a bizarre event, hordes of people wearing suits are going out to see the new Minions: The Rise of Gru film.
The trend has quickly spread across social media, mainly on TikTok and Twitter. Videos show groups of well-dressed gentlemen descending upon theaters to see the new Minions movie.
They’re coming dressed in dapper suits, tuxedos and other smart clothes for the event of the summer. And the videos are often set to the tune of “Rich Minion”, a song by rapper Yeat from the Minions soundtrack. As you can see below, it’s pretty wild.
And honestly, it’s a pretty hilarious meme, especially considering the effort people are going to for a film they probably weren’t planning on seeing otherwise. It’s also pretty funny when you consider the bad reviews the film is getting on some sites.
Minions: The Rise of Gru
iNews said the film is “so bad I wanted to squash the little pests”. IGN rated it a 5/10. But despite all that, the film is performing well at the box office, as is expected of the little yellow weirdos.
The Minions have always been popular, as you’ll know if you’ve spent any time looking at Facebook memes. For some reason they just attract people, and I can’t quite fathom why.
The social media trend could also be contributing to that success currently, though it’s not quite reaching “Morbius” levels of fame yet. That movie may be remembered as the meme of the year when we look back in a few years time. There’s still time for Minions to overtake it though.
In addition, the trend has also led to some chaos in theaters. One theater has to deny entry to teens in suits due to disturbances. Other videos show people disrupting the film itself, which isn’t very gentleman-ly.
