Halo Infinite Multiplayer Lets You Choose Your Own Version Of Cortana

Similar to how the Master Chief has his personal AI, Cortana, Halo Infinite Multiplayer lets you choose your own personal Spartan AI.

One of the best parts of Halo multiplayer is the announcer. They’re the booming voice that narrates each match, announcing epic moments and chanting team orders.

For years, that has been the voice of Jeff Steitzer. His iconic vocals surely fuel the nostalgia of every season shooter. Chants of “Killionaire!” still follow me in my dreams. Just kidding – I was never good enough to achieve a killionaire.

A recent trailer showcased the customisation in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. Much of the focus was on how players will be able to make their Spartan their own. Customisation will be fuelled by regular Battle Passes, which will persist between each season and will be entirely cosmetic.

“You are you inside of the Halo universe”

Part of the customisation is the AI that talks to your Spartan. Just as Cortana is synonymous with Spartan 117, you’ll be able to choose your own AI to match the personality of your own Spartan character.

It adds to the sense of player identity that 343 Industries is trying to endue into the Halo Infinite customisation.

Alex Bean, a multiplayer designer at 343, shared his insight into why players will have a choice of AI:

“What if we can let players choose their own AI and each one of those are different voices so that players can find the one that fits their personality and their mood the best?”

“It is really about becoming a Spartan –  your Spartan. You are you inside of the Halo universe,” adds Tom French, the multiplayer associate director of Halo Infinite multiplayer.

Aside from the personalisation aspect, the AI will provide useful gameplay updates throughout the match. For example, when an enemy picks up the flag, your AI will provide you with that information. They’ll also make humorous comments. In the E3 multiplayer trailer, one can be heard telling the player to “haul *ss”.

Luckily, the voice of Jeff Steitzer hasn’t gone anywhere. His gravelly tones can still be heard throughout all of the new Halo Infinite multiplayer trailers. These new AI customisations seem like an additional option rather than a replacement.

Halo Infinite multiplayer will be free to play when the full game launches later this fall. I wonder if we’ll see Cortana return in Halo Infinite via this multiplayer customisation. She would certainly make an excellent Battle Pass tier reward.
