Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the biggest games of its time, and even thought the title originally launched in the long-forgotten period of 2013, its thousands of mods and millions of adoring fans keep it constantly in the limelight.
With it being the absolute phenomenon it is, it’s not really too surprising to hear Grand Theft Auto 5 is getting itself a documentary.
According to Screendaily, the project – entitled The Billion Dollar Game – has begun production, and is being directed by Rob Ryan.
You might know Ryan if you checked out his infamous documentary about weed-growing nuns, Breaking Habits, which hit the headlines in summer of this year.
The report states that the Grand Theft Auto 5 documentary will “combine archive and new interview footage,” to explore the mammoth success of the game – and presumably, its impact on the video game industry.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is still listed as one of the greatest games of all time by a number of sources, and it jumped to become not just the most lucrative game of all time, but also the most lucrative media release of any form.
Earlier this year, industry analyst Doug Creutz stated that Grand Theft Auto 5 brought in more money than any other form of media in history, selling over 90 million units and earning itself a whopping $6 billion in revenue.
Rockstar Games is known for its massively immersive games, and the success of Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the many reasons why the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 has fans more than hyped.
The game boasts realistic graphics and physics, over 60 hours of main storyline, seemingly endless quests and missions, and also you can make friends with your horse. Because why not?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is just a few days from release, and it’s definitely going to be one that’s keeping gamers occupied over the next few months, or even years, considering Rockstar’s past games…
Red Dead Redemption 2 releases 26th October 2018 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
