Cell Phone Built In Minecraft Can Actually Make Video Calls, Amazing

While you’re struggling to survive from the constant creeper attacks in your mud hut, Youtube star CaptainSparklez has created a fully working cellphone that can make video calls from inside the game.

Seeing creative builds on Minecraft isn’t something we’re new to, but this by far takes the crown. In addition to making video calls, the phone can also browse the internet and take selfies.

CaptainSparklez partnered with Verizon, the largest wireless telecomms provider in the US, to create the contraption. It might just be the least subtle ad ever, but we’d be lying if we said it didn’t garner our attention.

The phone itself doesn’t support high-res, but this is probably due to the fact the display is made up of blocks from the Minecraft world, shifting different colored blocks to mimic your image.

Verizon gave a small description as to how the phone actually works, read below:

In the world of Minecraft, almost everything is made of blocks. We’ve created a web application, Boxel, that translates real web pages and streaming video into blocks so they can be built on a Minecraft server in real time. Our server plugin uses Boxel-client to handle the communication between Minecraft and the real world as translated by the web application.

If you’re one of those tech savvys and want to learn more about how this works, or if you want to give this a go yourself, you can do so here.

What are some of your best creations in Minecraft? Mine was a life-sized replica of Spencer Mansion from Resident Evil.

After seeing this, I’m feeling a little envious. Also, take a look at the video below –
