Escape From Tarkov Goes Downtown In New Urban Map

A trailer for the new Escape from Tarkov map dropped last night, taking the survival shooter into the urban depths of the city.

The new area is called ‘Streets of Tarkov’ and takes place amidst two residential buildings in the downtown streets of the city. It’s situated between the two areas that already exist in the game, Razedchikov and Kamchatskaya.

From the trailer, it looks to expand upon the tight and claustrophobic gameplay that Tarkov players have come to love. Liminal spaces and winding corridors create a feeling of entrapment as soldiers navigate their way through, seeing only what their flashlights allow.

There are still some open spaces, though. Also demonstrated in the trailer are some firefights taking place between buildings and the open park to the exterior.

Streets of Tarkov is expected to release alongside the next game update, 0.13. There’s currently no release date yet, but the developer ‘Battlestate Games’ is usually frequent with its patches.

Not for the faint of heart!

Escape from Tarkov is an ambitious project that’s been in development since 2012. An official reveal occurred in 2015 before an early beta build launched in 2017. Since then, the game has received regular updates for those who have bought into the early access program. There’s currently no concrete date for when the game will achieve a full release.

If you’re thinking about getting into Escape from Tarkov, know that it’s for anyone but a casual gamer. It prides itself on its granular movement controls and sim-like gameplay. Any loot you acquire while playing is always at risk of getting lost while in the multiplayer playspace which can be frustrating for new players.

Despite the hardcore approach, Battlestate Games has managed to attract a healthy audience to its unapologetic title. It was reported in May last year that Escape from Tarkov was enjoying a peak player count of around 200k following a healthy patch update [via PCGamesN].

The game isn’t without its critics, though. Early last year, streamer Dr DisRespect was offered $1k by a viewer to stop playing the game on stream.
