Speaking to MCV, Bethesda’s Pete Hines talked about the upcoming Doom 4 video game. While the talk didn’t express new details of the video game, Pete describes the mindset of developing a video game that is near and dear to so many gamers hearts.
Pete Hines compared the Doom series to Wolfenstein. The Wolfenstein video game series is beloved but the last few video games within the series was not up to par with the first installment. Thus, when Machine Games started development, it was going to be a tough journey making this game untarnished. Though Machine Games did it and the latest Wolfenstein: The New Order video game has been receiving positive reviews from critics and gamers.
This is the same mindset that Bethesda is having for Doom 4.
We view that similarly to Wolfenstein. Because it’s been so long since the last Doom game. We are going in as if we need to prove ourselves all over again. We have no free passes. Nobody will assume this is going to be awesome.
We are going to have to prove that this is something that’s going to be fun and different that you need to pay attention to. That has to be our default position, we can’t be: ‘It’s Doom, of course you’re going to play it’. But that just makes us work harder.
So far there is no release date for the upcoming Doom 4 video game. Though more information on the title will be released during this years Quakecon.
