After the success of the God of War game for PlayStation 4 earlier in the year there is now talk of making a God of War film. The potential director of the film has pitched ideas to Sony bosses a few months ago but we haven’t heard an update since then.
Steven DeKnight, who is the man who wants to direct the film, wants Dave Bautista to play the mighty Kratos.
Dave Bautista is of course originally known for wresting in the WWE and, like many of his wrestling counterparts, has transitioned into movie stardom. His role in the Guardians of the Galaxy films have helped him become more of a household name and now with the potential of being one of the most famous faces in gaming he could become even more of a famous face.
As many of us know, the transition from game to film (or film to game), isn’t always the best outcome. It will be interesting to see how they transition this blockbuster of a game series onto the bug screen.
Netflix are also having a go at this with their upcoming Witcher TV show.
The series is based on the bestselling fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. According to Netflix, The Witcher is described as “an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
It will be interesting to see how, and of course if Sony pick up the idea for a film. I would definitely take myself to the cinema to go and watch Kratos take on hoards of enemies for an hour or so.
