Bungie Is Charging You Extra To Play New Destiny 2 Dungeons

Bungie has come under fire after it was revealed players will have to pay extra to access Destiny 2’s new dungeons.

Destiny’s next expansion, The Witch Queen, launches next February. Players can choose to pay for the standard edition or the deluxe edition with more content. However, in a comment on the game’s subreddit, Destiny community manager Cozmo clarified that the dungeons won’t be available with the standard expansion.

The comment states “If you get the Digital Deluxe Edition of The Witch Queen you will receive the expansion, all four Seasons for the next year, and the two Dungeons.

Dungeons are sort of like mini-raids, where 3 players take part in a series of challenging encounters. These are some of Destiny’s best activities, as they always introduce new mechanics or cool areas to explore.

Naturally, players didn’t take kindly to hearing this content will now be locked behind an additional paywall.

Dungeons were never tied to deluxe editions before. Now, it seems they’re inaccessible unless you pay more than the standard DLC price. That never used to be the case, but Bungie seems to be testing just how ridiculous their monetisation can get.

Destiny 2 also has a microtransactions store, and some paid content is later removed to make space for new stuff. With that in mind, it’s frustrating to see core content like dungeons are now becoming separate purchases as well.

In fact, there’s a lot of confusion over what you actually get with each purchase. It’s becoming hard to track Destiny’s content because so much of it’s split up, but I’ll attempt to do so anyway.

With the standard edition you get the base Witch Queen content, which includes a new campaign and various new weapons. The digital deluxe edition includes the base expansion, all four “seasons” across the year and two dungeons. You can buy the seasons separately, and it looks like you can buy the dungeons separately too. You can also upgrade to the digital deluxe version after purchasing the standard edition already.

Bungie’s method of charging its players seems to get more egregious with every expansion, and it looks like the same can be said for The Witch Queen.
