Andrew Garfield has opened up about who he actually told about his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, despite lying to the rest of the world.
Andrew Garfield reprising his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home was the world’s worst and also best kept secret. We’d seen leaked set images, even spotted editing mistakes in movie trailers. Despite all of this, the star remained adamant that he had nothing to do with the production prior to release.
Garfield even lied to his ex-girlfriend and former co-star, Emma Stone. She apparently called him up to ask whether he was involved in the latest Marvel film. He stayed true to his contract, revealing nothing.
However, it turns out Andrew Garfield did let his role slip to a few people close to his heart. The star recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss his appearances in Tick Tick Boom. However, it’s really his work on Spider-Man that the audience is eager to hear about.

Who did Andrew Garfield tell about No Way Home?
When asked about what it was like to keep the secret, Garfield said that he had to lie to people for “a good two years”. While this sounds like a bit of a chore, he says that it actually “felt great” to keep the role hidden. Garfield wasn’t completely silent, though. He reveals that he told his dad, his brother, and also his mother about donning the Spider-Man suit once more.
“It was fun to keep it a secret,” Garfield exclaims gleefully. “You know when you’re planning a surprise birthday party for someone and they’re like ‘I hate surprises. Tell me, is the party happening? No seriously, don’t mess around because you know I actually hate surprises’? I’m like ‘I’m not gonna tell you!”
“It felt like I was organising a surprise birthday party for a bunch of people who I knew were going to appreciate it.”
