10 upcoming open world games that will revolutionize gaming

Open-world games undoubtedly mark a point in video game history. They transcend a traditional linear design and begin allowing players the possibility to experience a sandbox world in which they are free to roam, taking the path they feel defines them best.

So, if you want to know what games that are worth it will be releasing in 2017 and 2018 in the much appreciated open-world gameplay style, here’s a list that covers ten of the most interesting titles that are worth keeping an eye on.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (2017)

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will apparently come to Nintendo Switch sometime during the 2017 holiday season and even though its title is hinting towards being a sequel, it will be more than that.

A new cast of characters will be added, the entire storyline taking place in an endless ocean of clouds where the last fragments of civilization live on the backs of various colossal beasts known as the Titans. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks like a fairly promising title that will probably become more popular in the West thanks to the Nintendo Switch association.

Agents of Mayhem (2017)

Set in a futuristic version of Seoul, Agents of Mayhem is an open-world action adventure that features twelve different agents, the players being able to choose three of them to complete the missions.

This game has been frequently associated with Saints Row, sharing the same multiverse and type of humor. However, Agents of Mayhem is a more tempered type of game, offering a varied and engaging gameplay.

Metal Gear Survive (2018)

The first gaming title in the Metal Gear franchise since Hideo Kojima’s 2015 departure from Konami is set to be released sometime in 2018. Metal Gear Survive takes place in the time period between Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain and will feature an alternate reality scenario where crystalline zombie-like creatures are the main threat.

With a totally different premise than the other games from the franchise, Metal Gear Survive will have a hard task ahead of it when it comes to impressing the fans.

Destiny 2 (2017)

Destiny 2

On the 6th of September Destiny 2 will finally make its appearance to the gaming world. Featuring the same gameplay mechanics we already got used to from the first title of the franchise, this sequel will include a better matchmaking system that will allow players to search for clans to adhere to.

The PvE and PvP game modes are still present so we can’t wait to get our hands on Destiny 2 as soon as possible.

Sea of Thieves (2018)

A 2018 pirate themed co-op action adventure, Sea of Thieves is a gaming title that features cross-platform play between Windows based PCs and Xbox One consoles. Besides this amazing feature, it also includes an extensive open world that can be explored via a pirate ship, each of the players being able to assume different roles in their crew.

Firing canons, hoisting sails and steering the boat seem to be really fun activities thanks to the exaggerated physics involved and the cartoony design of the game

State of Decay 2 (2018)

The biggest innovation State of Decay 2 promises to bring is the co-operative multiplayer mode that is going to include up to four players. In other horror survival titles you are usually tasked with fighting the hordes of rabid zombies all by yourself, so this addition is more than welcome, making the entire gameplay much more social and immersive.

Even though State of Decay 2 is a sequel and we all know how these usually end up, we do hope that this title will not be flopping like other sequels before it.

Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017)

It seems that Assassin’s Creed Origins wants to revive its parent franchise by introducing RPG gameplay elements, more extensive open world maps and a greater variety of free-form action. The level of difficulty is yet another aspect that will be changed, the gameplay is said to become more challenging, with epic boss fights and memorable enemy encounters. If it will truly manage to do so, we’ll see in October 2017 when the game is going to be officially released.

Far Cry 5 (2018)

Far Cry 5 digs its teeth into a very controversial subject: religion, its story taking place in a rural area known as Hope County, Montana where a group of religious fanatics have taken over the village. The player’s goal is to liberate the residents from under this faction’s power using all the violent means at their disposal.

The novelty that Far Cry 5 will bring is the option to recruit one of several guns for hire companions to help you in your liberation quest and watch your back when you’re in the middle of the action.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord (2017)

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is set 200 years before Mount & Blade: Warband and it will include at least eight major factions, each encompassing several clans with their own goals, as well as minor warband factions like mercenaries.

It is a highly awaited title and its gameplay elements and graphical specifications excited a large number of gamers. Bannerlord is thought to be released sometime this year, but as of yet there’s no specific information pointing towards an exact date.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018)

The second installment of the Red Dead Redemption franchise was set to be released in Fall 2017, but because the developers wanted to offer a meticulously polished title to their fans, they decided to delay the release until Spring 2018.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is most definitely one of the utmost expected gaming titles right now, its stunning open world and exquisite gameplay being awaited by millions of gamers.
