Call of Duty: Vanguard reportedly underperformed for Activision, and the company claims it’s because people don’t care about World War 2.
In a financial report for 2021, the company said Vanguard “didn’t meet our expectations, we believe primarily due to our own execution.” According to Activision it didn’t deliver “as much innovation in the premium game as we would have liked,” but it later attribute the game’s mixed reception to its setting.
The company claims the World War 2 setting didn’t resonate with the community. Apparently, World War 2 is not as popular a setting for video games as the company first thought. It also says Modern Warfare 2, which has been confirmed as 2022’s entry in the series, will address that issue.

Vanguard World War 2 – Poor Performance?
Vanguard definitely wasn’t received as well as other CoD titles in the past. It reviewed fairly poorly, and a lack of content was not received well by fans. It was also released during the middle of the Activision-Blizzard lawsuit, which alleges widespread abuse in the company.
We’ll have to see if Modern Warfare 2 resolves CoD fans’ concerns. A full reveal for the game is expected to come out soon. Whether it’ll live up to Activision’s expectations remains to be seen.
