Disclosure: Many of our readers are reporting that they are being denied for refund. Others say they received the refund. We are receiving conflicting reports.
In a strange turn of events, PC digital gaming service Steam, a Valve owned entity, is now offering full refunds to No Man’s Sky players who have purchased the game on their service.
Steam generally doesn’t issue any refunds upon customer complaints if they have played the game for more than two hours but have chosen to make No Man’s Sky an exception to the rule. This potentially signifies that major gaming distribution channels formally concede the game did not live up to its advertised promises. A very big deal, and potential deathblow to any nascent developer of interactive entertainment such as Hello Games.
A large number of No Man’s Sky players claimed to have felt cheated by the game after it failed to live upto the hype and in turn their expectations, which may or may not be fair on the game, depending how you choose to look at the situation.
Does the gameplay match the trailer?
The game also saw a 90% drop in player count in less than a week since release. This demonstrates people are quickly losing interest or have already completed the game. Steam isn’t alone in issuing refunds to its customers as online retailer Amazon also did the same after receiving complaints from customers. A customer said:
Just did it and just got refunded. Fuck I love Amazon.
There’s an entire reddit thread discussing the Steam’s updated refund policy for the game and people have expressed both shock and joy upon this discovery.
Just heard on a random twitch channel they’re giving refund so i gave it a shot even though I tried the day it came out, AND HOLY SHIT IT WORKED.
I should mention I had 8 hours in the game, and a negative review.
In case you belong to the group who isn’t happy with the game and regret purchasing it, now’s your chance to claim a full refund through Steam.
And now a look back to happier times:
