Sony: PS4 to protect retail’s “very fragile ecosystem”

SCE boss Jim Ryan says that PS4 is not blocking used games because it will adversely affect the retail market by affecting retailers who get by on profits from trade-ins.

In an interview, Ryan expressed his opinion that the gaming ecosystem in the UK is somewhat fragile. “We all know just how difficult it is for retailers, and while we’re never going to make a policy decision to cushion the lives of video game retailers in a particular market, it’s a factor that we need our retail partners to survive and hopefully prosper.”, he said.

“That very fragile ecosystem is one I feel shouldn’t be lightly tampered with.”

Sony seems to be tailoring itself to shelter the markets of the UK and Europe because PlayStation has enjoyed supremacy in these markets over the Xbox during the past two generations.
