Respawn is hiring people to help with a new single-player first person shooter game set in the Apex Legends universe.
Apex Legends has been going strong ever since it released in 2019, and now it seems there’s a single-player game on the way. Apex is a multiplayer battle royale, and it recently came to mobile platforms. This new game would be the first single player Apex game – well, if you don’t count Titanfall.
Job listings by Respawn mention the new game, which seems to be based in the Apex universe. One job is recruiting someone “to help build a brand new Respawn single-player adventure.” It says “This new single-player title is a developer’s dream playground with the freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits.”
The New Apex Game
As previously reported by outlets like GamesBeat, Respawn’s new game will be based on “mobility” and “style”. That sounds a lot like the gameplay of Apex, which emphasises moving around the map with abilities like sliding, ziplines or teleports. Respawn is referring to the title as the “Apex Universe FPS incubation project”.
This title is in addition to other Respawn games, including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The new game was revealed earlier this year and continues the story of Cal Kestis. It’s set to launch in 2023.
Supposedly, the studio is also working on two other Star Wars projects. The second is a first person shooter set in the Star Wars universe created by Medal of Honor co-creator Peter Hirschmann. And the third is a strategy game by Bit Reactor, a studio with ex-Firaxis developers who are collaborating with Respawn.
And if you’re wondering why Respawn is making a single-player Apex game instead of Titanfall, it’s probably down to how successful the former has been for the company. Titanfall has been on the backburner for a while, with Apex quickly taking over after its surprise launch.
