We’ve known for a while now that a brand-new Pokémon movie will be released in Japan later this year. We’ve also known that it’s going to be very Mewtwo-centric, y’know, since it’s called Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution.
However, not much else is known about the upcoming project, although that hasn’t stopped people speculating about the direction it’s headed in, and it looks to be a very familiar direction indeed…
A tweet showing what appears to be clips from the movie has surfaced, and people are almost certain that it’s showing off Pokémon: The First Movie, but with CGI graphics a.k.a a reboot.

Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution was believed to be a throwback to the first feature-length Pokémon movie, but now it looks as though it could actually be a fully-fledged remake, and fans are pretty excited to say the least.

Whether it is a remake, or something entirely new, only time will tell!
What we do know about the upcoming movie is that it’s being directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and Motonori Sakakibara [via NintendoLife]. Its screenplay will be written by Takeshi Shudo, and we can expect a trailer or plot details in the coming months.
My guesses about what Pokemon the movie 22 would be? Based on the staff info and merchandise lineup:
1. A CG movie of M01 Mewtwo Strikes Back
2. An adaptation of M01 with minor changes such as introducing a new form of Mewtwo or a new gen8 Pokemon or Meltan, etc. (CG or not CG)— Nihilego Khu (@Riddler_Khu) December 13, 2018
Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will release next summer, 12th July 2019. So far it’s only been confirmed as a Japanese release, but who knows if that’ll change or not.
