Mia Khalifa has been slammed for posting instructions on how to make a Molotov cocktail on her social media.
In a response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Khalifa tweeted about the Molotov cocktails to show people how to make them. This was just one day after the invasion began. Since then, public opinion on her post has been divided.
And while some people appreciated her post, others criticised her heavily for it. One criticism said “I understand the reason behind this but please delete this, it’s not necessary for all of twitter to know how to make a Molotov.“
Another person replied “OMG! Thank you for support! Didn’t expect you’ll talk about resistance such directly. It’s important – to know, people around the whole world understand, how we feel here.”
The Ministry of Defence in Ukraine has been encouraging citizens to make Molotov cocktails. It said “Make Molotov cocktails, neutralise the occupier! Peaceful residents, be careful! Do not leave the house!“
Invasion of Ukraine
The invasion of Ukraine is still ongoing after peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Russia has agreed a new 12-hour ceasefire to allow civilians to flee the worst-affected areas of Ukraine. However, Russia have been shelling civilian evacuation routes in Mariupol, turning the area into a humanitarian disaster.
Russia became the most sanctioned country in the world after over 2,000 new sanctions were introduced in a short period of time following the invasion. Many businesses, including Microsoft, Disney and McDonalds have stopped doing business in the country. Visa and Mastercard also suspended operations in Russia. Twitch has recently started to withhold payments from Russian streamers.
As evacuations continue in Ukraine, the number of refugees from the country has risen to over one and a half million. But Ukrainians are still defending their country from Russian forces, even pushing them back in some areas.
