Jim Sterling’s website under attack after giving Zelda: Breath of the Wild ‘bad’ review score

Jim Sterling reviewed Breath of the Wild… and his review really did a number on some people.

Before Jim dropped this bomb, the new Zelda game was sitting tied for the 2nd highest rated game of all time with a 98 average. People love it, rabidly, so when Jim revealed his score of 7/10 and dragged down that average to a 97 and de-seated BotW from 2nd place, people started attacking his website.

Theories online which (Jim has tweeted out to make fun of) show that there are people who think this is some kind of revenge at Nintendo for making copyright claims on his videos in the past, and that he’s actually conspiring with other outlets that didn’t give the game perfect reviews in order to bring down the score by one % point.

Just to re-iterate, he gave the game a 7/10, which is a good score, but people act like anything before 9.5 is the work of the devil. It’s not like he gave it a 2 and dragged it through the mud while it was kicking and screaming and gasping for air, then sent a video of that to everyone who enjoyed the game.

Other theories have speculated that Jim dropped this review as a way to try to get attention, but again, it’s a 7. And it’s not like he just posted a review with nothing other than “7/10” in huge letters. He goes into detail about what he likes and dislikes about the game, you know, as game reviewers are prone to do.

Granted, a lot of people disagree with the score, but people are allowed to have different taste in games. Find a reviewer who has similar taste to yourself, and you’re golden. Not every review of a game is a one-size-fits-all.
