James Gunn Could Be Writing and Directing The Next Suicide Squad

Director James Gunn faced a lot of controversy and backlash this year after being sacked from Disney after ‘inappropriate jokes’ were discovered on his social media accounts.

Despite a lot of love from his fans and fellow Hollywood veterans, the House of Mouse closed its doors on Gunn, sending him packing from his affiliation with Marvel Studios.

It doesn’t seem to be the end of the line for Gunn and superheroes though, as DC Comics are reportedly in talks with the director, with rumours suggesting he might be on-board to direct a new Suicide Squad movie.

Warner Bros. has just confirmed that Gunn is in discussions to write – and potentially direct – the next chapter in the franchise, and the news has Gunn fans pretty excited…

The new Suicide Squad movie, if headed by Gunn, will apparently be less of a direct sequel and more of a reimagining, according to reports.

Suicide Squad received mixed reactions from fans and critics, with some absolutely hating the new spin on some of the favourite characters of the DC Universe.

If Gunn, famous for his massive successes with Guardians of the Galaxy, does get on board with DC, it’ll definitely be interesting to see what direction he takes the franchise to…

Although the new Suicide Squad project doesn’t yet have a release date, it’s confirmed to be being produced by Peter Safran.

Dave Bautista who plays Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy films who has been a supporter of James Gunn after his dismissal from Disney has also said that he would be interested in a role in the film. He tweeted this when the news of James Gunns latest project was announced.

What do you think? Would you like to see Gunn move from Marvel to DC, and is Suicide Squad the best franchise for him to take on?
