James Gunn has defended Chris Pratt after people called for the actor to be replaced in the role of Star Lord.
After a Twitter user pointed out that Pratt could be replaced by Patrick Wilson, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn defended Pratt.
The user asked if Gunn was cool with “him being part of a homophobic church”. Gunn replied: “He isn’t. I know the church he currently goes to. Do you? (The answer is you don’t, but heard from someone who heard from someone who heard from someone where he goes to church, so decided “Yeah, okay, I’ll believe this terrible thing I heard online about this celebrity!”)”

Why is James Gunn defending Chris Pratt?
The church, called the Zoe Church, apparently referred LGBT members to conversion therapy until 2011. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s a practice that serves as a way to harm LGBT people.
Chris Pratt has said that Zoe Church “accepts all types of people and that there is no place for hate in my or this world”. This response came after being called out by actor Elliot Page, who criticised him in 2019. It seems that Gunn is willing to support Pratt despite the history of the church – I can only hope it has improved a lot since 2011.
